Promising start for the season - Surrey Championships

15/10/10

Tess Glynne-Jones - U15 Finalist in the Surrey Championships 2010 Samantha Cloake - U17 Finalist in the Surrey Championships 2010Albury players were off to a good start in the first of a series of Surrey Championships this season. Last Sunday was the singles event for the U13, U15 and the U17 age groups. Three of our players have earned themselves silver medals: Tilly Ip in the U13A girls singles; Tess Glynne-Jones in the U15B girls singles; and Samantha Cloake in the U17B girls singles.

There were a lot of close-calls; Patrick Maher and Jonathan Bruce both reached the semi-finals in the U15 boys singles; Nick Weinstein and Jamie Fernandez both reached the quarter-finals. Alex Cloake also reached the semi-finals in the U17 boys singles but just got edged out in a hard-fought three-game battle. Malo Green reached the semi-finals in the U13 boys singles, which is pretty impressive for his first tournament.

For the girls, Margaret Raftis reached the semi-finals in the U15A girls singles and younger sister Katherine also reached the semi-finals in the U13B girls singles.

Well done for all who competed; the doubles events for U11 and U15 will be at Epsom College this Sunday.
